Clerical work in the new Registry of Hong Kong Seamen in the Mercantile Marine Office requires 2 Clerks and 2 Clerical Assistants. Of the 4 new posts of Ship Inspector Class II for the Ship Surveys Division, 3 are provided consequent upon a recent re-organization and the remaining post, together with 1 post of Clerical Assistant, are for duties in connexion with examinations for certificates of competency. The other additional posts listed above reflect increased work in the various sections of the Department.
The details of provisions for Special Expenditure are set out in the body of the Estimates. The provision of $100,000 in the new subhead "Harbour cleansing" is to provide for the establishment of a harbour cleansing unit for survey, investigation, publicity, etc. work in connexion with the problems of pollution of harbour waters by refuse. The total provision of $2,198,600 represents a decrease of $2,695,400 as compared with the figure for 1962-63.
