* Approved by Special Warrant during the year.
The 3 new posts of Typist are offset by the reduction of 3 posts of Clerk. Of the 4 new posts of Resettlement Officer, one is offset by the reduction of 1 post of Land Bailiff and the other three are intended as eventual replacements for the 3 posts of Executive Officer shown as supernumerary. The post of Assistant Resettlement Officer (Technical) is required for duties at the Eastern Kowloon Resettle- ment Estates and the post of Area Officer (Technical) for duties at the Jordan Valley and Kwun Tong Estates. The post of Electrical Inspector, Class II is required for control of departmental electrical and maintenance work. The remaining new posts are required for normal expansion and new projects.
Under Other Charges Annually Recurrent the increase of $409,200 over the previous year's figure is due to an anticipated growth of approximately 22% in the total number of resettlement domestic and factory blocks to be administered.
Under Special Expenditure, provisions of $290,000 and $47,700 for new construction work at Rennie's Mill and Shui Ngau Ling respectively are included under Development of cottage areas. Both Rennie's Mill and Shui Ngau Ling are newly adopted areas which accounts for the relatively high develop- ment expenditure at the two places.
