Of the new posts approved by Special Warrant during 1961-62, 3 posts of Senior Judicial Clerk and 11 of Judicial Clerk are offset by the reduction of 1 post of Clerk of the Court and 13 of Executive Officer. The 2 new posts of Principal Magistrate, 2 of Office Attendant and 1 of Amah Class I are offset by 3 posts of Magistrate, 2 of Messenger and 1 of Amah Class II respectively.

The other additional posts are required to deal with the increasing volume of work in the Judiciary. One additional post of Puisne Judge, 1 of Judicial Clerk, and 1 of Court Reporter are required for the Supreme Court; 1 post of District Judge, 1 of Judicial Clerk, 1 of Interpreter/Translator, and 1 of Assistant Bailiff for the new District Court in Fanling; 1 post of Secretary Stenographer for the Puisne Judges; and 1 post of Clerical Assistant for the library in the South Kowloon Magistracy. Of the 3 additional posts of Clerk, one is required as an Usher for the new District Judge, one for the Probate Registry and one for the Tsuen Wan Magistracy. Two of the additional posts of Typist are required to cope with the increasing typing work in the Tenancy Tribunal, and one to assist the Court Translator in typing translations. One post of messenger is required for the Tenancy Tribunal.

Of the supernumerary posts of Clerk, one is required for the Fanling District Court in connexion with issuing of writs and the other for the Probate Registry for indexing of wills. The 2 supernumerary posts of Typist are required for the Victoria District Court and Kowloon District Court.

Under Other Charges Annually Recurrent, the increase shown under Honoraria and fees: Temporary Magistrates is to cover an honorarium for one President, Tenancy Tribunal.
