Headquarters

The construction of the City Hall is well advanced and detailed planning for its administration has necessitated the addition of 1 post of Assistant Manager, 5 of Assistant Librarian, 3 of Library Assistant and 3 of Clerical Assistant. It is estimated that the City Hall will be ready for occupation at the beginning of 1962 and further posts to make up the full complement of staff for its operation will be required during the last quarter of the financial year.

A Secretary Stenographer is provided for the Secretary, Urban Council, and his Deputy to deal with classified papers; 1 additional Clerk has been made available for the Cemeteries Section to relieve the Supervisor (Cemeteries and Crematoria) of routine clerical duties, and 8 Clerical Assistants are provided for minor clerical duties at the Victoria Park.

For reorganization of the Stores Section 5 additional posts of Storekeeper, 4 of Store Assistant, 1 of Stores Attendant and 2 of Labourer are provided. This additional staff is offset by the reduction of 2 posts of Clerical Assistant. Stores Foreman posts are re-classified as those of Foreman Class III.

One additional Motor Mechanic is required to augment the vehicle maintenance staff of the departmental garage in Kowloon. 49 extra posts of Special Driver and 5 posts of Motor Driver are provided for new specialized and ordinary vehicles which are expected to be delivered during the year. A further post of Motor Driver and 2 of Artisan Class I have been provided to drive and operate additional bulldozers which are to be brought into use for refuse disposal.

One post of Photographer has been established for the purpose of maintaining pictorial records of hawker operations, cleansing campaigns, typhoon damage, etc., and the promotion of health education and other departmental activities of this nature.

Other minor posts have been provided for dealing with increased activities generally.

Cleansing Division

One post of Senior Health Inspector is provided to relieve the Assistant Superintendent (Cleansing) in the administration and supervision of the various services within the Division.

One Foreman Class I and 1 Foreman Class II are provided for supervisory duties in the Eastern District (Hong Kong) and the Disinfecting Station (Hong Kong) respectively in lieu of 1 Overseer and 1 Foreman Class III.

One post of Artisan Class I is required to operate the cremator furnaces at the new crematoria at Cape Collinson and to supervise the general work of the Crematorium.
