IMPORTS
As already pointed out, the net value of the import trade in standard dollars for the year 1939 was $1,334 million as compared with $886 million for 1938, or an increase of 50 per cent. The following table shows the net imports from abroad for the years 1937, 1938, and 1939, arranged according to the main groupings in the "Monthly Returns of the Foreign Trade of China" and ac- cording to the order of importance of these groupings during the year under review:
