be possible in less than 72 hours. The railway from Nanchang to Pinghsiang is also under construction, and it is hoped that by the end of August 1937 the whole line will be open to traffic and Changsha thus connected with Shanghai by railway via Nanchang and Hangchow. Plans for the projected Hunan- Kwangsi and Hunan-Szechwan Railways are under consideration. During the year great progress was made in the sphere of long-distance telephones services, while the nine-province long-distance telephone between Changsha and Nanchang was opened to the public during the early part of the year, followed by comple- tion of the lines from Changsha to Kiukiang, Kuling, Anking, Wuhu, Nanking, Yochow, Hankow, Wuchang, and Hanyang. Hiwhway construction was pushed ahead, about 300 kilometres of roads (mostly well surfaced) being commpleted during the year. The air service of the Eurasia Aviation Corporation was inactive throughout the year.
