and other kindred products extensively used in various industries. The construction work of the Ming Sung Godown on the Nantao Bund was completed at the end of the year. It is a five-stories building occupying a site of 1,078 square metres, in front of which was also built a wharf with a waterfront of 90 metres. It will be used primarily. for the storage of cargo brought down froin Upper Yangtsze ports vessels of the Ming Sung Industrial Company. The Shanghai Fish Market, located on the point Island near Yangtszepoo, was formally opened in May. Besides being a centre where all whole- sale transactions of fish take place, it attempts, with the aid of a refrigerating plant of the latest type, to regulate the supply demand of fish at Shanghai. The population of this port by the end of the year was reported to be 3,808,764, representing an increase of 264,309 over the figure for 1935 and making the city the sixth largest in the world and the largest in China.
