Ichang, district without difficulty or inconvenience. Branches of the Hupeh Provincial Bank were opened at Szenan, Patung, and Itu in April. The extension of the aerodrome at Ichang, the work on which was started in 1934, was duly completed in the same month. The city telephone system was greatly improved after having been taken over by representatives of the Ministry of Communications during the year, when arrangement was also made to link up the system with the long distance telephone lines within Western Hupeh, which were originally installed for military use only. The motor road connecting Patung with Szenan was ready for service towards the close of the year. Opium suppression work was carried out in strict accordance with the Government's instructions, the sale of the drug being brought under proper official control and registration of addicts vigorously effected.
