The Port Arthur-Dairen coast road, bordering the southern coast of the Liaotung Peninsula, along which a bus line runs, enabling passengers to admire the changing scenery of the wooded hills on one side and the turquoise sea on the other affords the most charming drive in Manchuria. I

There is a branch line of the South Manchurian Railway, and through the junction station (Ch'ou Shui) several trains run daily between Port Arthur and Dairen. The journey occupies only one hour and a half by train. Drainage and waterworks have been constructed and the place is well lighted with electric light.

The population of the city of Port Arthur according to the census of 31st July, 1936, was 31,059.
