TEXT OF NEW CHINESE CUSTOMS IMPORT TARIFF.

INCREASES ON MANY GOODS.

CHANGES IN CLASSIFICATION AND METHOD OF

CALCULATING DUTY.

Important alterations contained in the new Customs Import Tariff of the Republic of China, which came into effect on May 22, 1933, are reproduced below.

Considerable increases in rates are shown in many cases, includ- ing articles of clothing and textiles, duties in some other cases being raised more than one hundred per cent. and there are also numerous changes and additions in classification, charges being calculated on value instead of unit of weight, length, or volume, or vice versa.

A number of luxuries, such as wines and spirits, which underwent an increase duty on August, 1932, to meet revenue deficiency, remain unchanged, and there are certain decreases of charges on jewellery and precious stomes.

If any of the articles provided for in this Tariff are imported in dimensions exceeding those specified, the duty is to be calculated in proportion to the measurements as defined.

The term "no.p.f." in this Tariff stands for "not otherwise provided for."
