In this period six new buildings have been constructed and new Automatic equipment has been installed in them. These together with the Central Office, make seven, Exchanges and in these there are at present installed equipment for 41,400 subscribers' Lines of Rotary 74 Automatic equipment. The buildings are designed so that, as required, additional equipment for 68,600 more subscribers can be added making a total for which building provision has been made for 1:0,000 subscribers Lines.

On March 31, 1932, the Exchange System contained 38,060 Telephones of which 92.9 per cent. were Automatic working. Of the remainder, 3.5 per cent.,being televi phones outside the Settlement and Concession, were semi-Automatic and the balance.. 3.6 per cent. also outside the Settlement and Concession, were operated manually. Approximately 94 per cent. of all the local calls are operated by full Automatic. machinery, 3 per cent. semi-Automatic and the remaining 3 per cent. Manual.

The conversion to Automatic was made in several stages, the first Automatic Exchange was brought into service August 15, 1931, and the last March 26, 1932.
