FOREWORD

In order to bring this section of the 1932 Directory and Chronicle up to

date it has been necessary to include the text of several new treaties and other

matter dealing with the rendition of Weihaiwei,, Extraterritoriality etc..

Since it was not considered desirable, however, to make the volume more bulky, the text of earlier treaties which have now lapsed, and other matter

found in previous editions, which it was felt was not of general interest, has

been ommitted.
