Directories & Chronicles 香港指南 All

INTRODUCTION

In presenting the 1932 Directory and Chronicle to its readers, the Editor feels that a few words of explanation are necessary.

In order to bring the section dealing with codes and treaties up-to-date it has been found necessary to include the text of several new Treaties and other matter dealing with the rendition of Wei Hai Wei, Extraterritoriality etc. Since it was felt that these additions to the treaties together with other new sections recently introduced, might render the volume unduly bulky, it was decided to omit from the present edition the text of earlier treaties that have now lapsed and certain other matter which was not of general iu-

terest.

The alphabetical list of cable addresses has been much enlarged and wil we hope prove of great use to our readers. In this connection we would like to offer a remark. It was suggested that cable addresses was a more correct designation than telegraphic address. To change "Ted. Ad." wherever it appeared to "Cable Ad." has meant not hundreds but thousands of altera- tions, and if there are still some "Tel. Ad's" to be found, we trust that users of the Directory will realise what an immense task it is to revise a volume of this sort from cover to cover each year.

A new feature which we believe will be very welcome is the Engineering Section which will be found in the body of the book directly following Hong Kong.

The price of the Directory and Chronicle remains, for this year, the same, but unless the silver exchange improves very considerably during 1932 we shall be obliged to raise it for the edition of 1933 as it is impossible to produce a volume of this description at the present price.

We would welcome any suggestion for the improvement of the Directory, and it is our hope that users of this book will help us by pointing cut where we have failed in large or small matters.
