Amoy forts and many junks destroyed by H.M.S. "Blode," 1840. French Expedition from the Hoongkiang arrived in Hongkong, 1873. Hongkong Legislative Council approved a developinent scheme for the south side of the island of Hongkong, 1914. Steamer "Don Juan" burnt at sea near Philippines; 145 persons perished, 1893.
