Lord Napier ordered by the Viceroy to leave Cauton, 1834. Great fire In Hongkong, 1868. Indian troops landed in Shanghai, 1900. Large gang of plrates attacked Cheungchow, killing three Indian constables, and looting the village, 1912. American Chaniber of Commerce established at Shanghai. 1915. Hongkong in 1923, was struck by the worst typhoon experienced since 1908, the squall velocity reaching & maximum of 130 miles an hour. Considerable damage was done to property on shore and to shipping in the Harbour, but the loss of life was relatively small.
