The gross value of the trade of the port in 1927 was Hk. Tls. 1,262,663,393, as com- pared with Hk. Tls. 1,469,893,484 in 1926.
Shanghai is not only the largest trade emporium but also the most important manufacturing centre in China. The port contributed 37.34 per cent. of the total Customs revenue collected in 1927, as compared with 41.81 per cent. in 1926, and 37.16- per cent. in 1925.
