Ratification at Tientsin of the Treaty between Portugal and China, 1888. United States formally recognised Republic of China, 1913. Presentation of Chinese Note in reply to Japan's revised demands, 1915.

Riot in French Concession at Shanghai, 1874. Roman Catholic Cathedral at Peping

Occupation of Port Hamilton by the British Squadron, 1885. Meeting of Chinese merchants at Shanghai instituted a boycott of American products as a protest against the Chinese Immigration Act, the movement eventually spreading extensively in China, 1905.
