The Direction of China's Foreign Trade
The following was the net value of commodities imported direct from and exported direct to foreign countries in 1926. These figures do not include the trade carried on with neighbouring countries in Chinese junks, which does not come within the control of the Foreign Customs, but include Hk. Tls. 20,425,718 re-exports to foreign countries:---

The total foreign trade of China in merchandise (ie., treasure excluded) in 1926 was valued at Hk. Tls. 1,988,516,024, which represents an increase of Hk. Tls. 264,298,143 over the preceding year's value (Hk. Tls. 1,724,217,881), and of Hk. Tls. 198,520,879 over the 1924 figure. This remarable result, comments the Statistical Secretary of the Maritime Customs, must have been due in part to a greater movement of goods, but it
