is for the care of leprous patients. The Manila Monte de Piedad and Savings Bank, organised in 1880, has several branches. There are five banks in Manila- the Govern- ment Philippine National Bank, the Banco Español Filipino, the Chartered Bank of India, Australia, and China, the Hongkong and Shanghai Bank, which has also a branch in Iloilo, and the International Banking Corporation of New York. There are numerous social societies, American and Spanish, and several theatres.
