Hakodate, Kanagawa, and Nagasaki, Japan, opened to trade, 1857. Two Swedish mis- sionaries murdered at Sungpu, 1893. Attempted assassination of Sir Henry May on his return to Hongkong as Governor, 1912. Restoration of Emperor of China by Chang Hsun, 1917. Amoy forts and many junks destroyed by H.M.S. "Blode,” 1840.
