LAPPA
Lappa, also called by the Chinese "Kung Pak," is an island directly opposite the Inner Harbour of Macao, the distance across being from 1 to 1 miles. One of the stations of the Chinese Maritime Customs is located here, and another on an islet calle 1 Malowchow. Lappa is under the jurisdiction of the Heungshan Magistrates. It possesses no features of interest beyond the fact that it is the principal Customs station in the neighbourhood of Macao. The net value of the trade passing through the Lappa Customs stations in 1913 was Hk. Tls. 18,018,503. The diversion of the course of trade to and from the Luichow Prefecture operates against Lappa. Much of the cargo which formerly came thence in junks to Micio and reported a Malowchow now avails itself of the more convenient and doubtless safer direct ster carriage between the French port of Kwang-chow-wan and Micao. There is also tendency for a portion of the west coast produce to go via Konginoon, whether destina for Hongkong or Cinton, and the old junk trade of this region with the foreign colonis is gradually disappearing.
