| 2ND IN LEST. Lin arrived in Canton, 1839. 12,000 Chinese troops attacked the English in Ningpo and Chinhai and were repulsed with great slaughter, 1842. The Japanese army after a sanguinary battle lasting several days occupied Moukden, and pursued the retreating Russians, whose losses in the battle were estimated at 20,000, 1905. Governor Sir R. G. MacDonnell arrived in Hongkong, 1866.
