In 1876 there will be two Eclipses of the Sun, and two of the Moon.
I. March 10th, a partial Eclipse of the Moon, partly visible at Greenwich, begins at 5h. 21m. a.m. Greenwich mean time, and ends at 7h. 21m, a.m. Visible in North and South America, and the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.
II. March 25th, an Annular Eclipse of the Sun invisible at Greenwich, begins at 5h. 29m p.m. Greenwich mean time, in long. 170° 40′ W., and lat. 5° 41′ 3., and ends at 10h. 40m., in long. 65° 47′ W., and lat. 52° 29′ Ñ. Visible in North America and North Pacific Ocean. At Van- couver Island it begins at 11h. 7m. a.m., and ends at 1h. 47m. p.m. local mean time.
III. September 3rd, a partial Eclipse of the Moon, visible at Greenwich, begins at 8h. 15m. p.m. Greenwich mean time, and ends at 10h. 29m. p.m. Visible in Australia (excepting near east coast), India, Africa, and Brazil.
IV. September 17th, a total Eclipse of the Sun, invisible at Greenwich, begins at 7h. 12m. p.m., Greenwich mean time, in long. 160° 12′ E., and lat. 9° 58′ N., and ends at 26 minutes past midnight, in long. 100° 2' W., and lat. 48° 19' S. The Eclipse begins and ends near sunrise in Australia. In New Zealand a partial Eclipse is visible at the following local mean times:-at Auckland, begins on September 18th at 8h. 13m. a.m., and ends at 10h. 24m. a.m., magnitude (sun diameter 1) 0.49; at Dunedin begins at 8h. 17m. a.m., and ends at 10h. 8m. a.m., magnitude 0.35; and at Christchurch begins at 8h. 19m. a.m., and ends at 10h. 19m. a.m, magnitude 0.39.
RULES TO KNOW WHEN THE MOVEABLE FEASTS OCCUR. Easter day, on which the rest depend, is always the first Sunday after the first full moon which happens after the 21st day of March. If the full moon happens upon a Sunday, Easter Day is the Sunday after. Advent Sunday is always the nearest Sun- day to the Feast of St. Andrew, whether before or after.
Rogation Sunday is Five weeks after Easter. | Whit Sunday is Seven weeks after Easter. Ascension Day is Forty days* after Easter. Trinity Sunday is Eight weeks after Easter.
