PREFACE.

▲ SLIGHT delay in the issue of the present work has enabled the publishers to make it far more complete than would otherwise have been possible. Some idea of the changes it records may be gained from the fact that more than 2,030 names have been removed from, while 2,410 have been added to, the Alphabetical List in this edition, which may safely challenge comparison, as regards copious- ness and accuracy, with any similar completion. The body of the work contains also a novel feature, a Singapore directory having, for the first time, been included.

The Appendix as usual, contains a vast amount of informa- tion, and the Index of Advertisements will afford useful hints to residents of all classes.
