The era adopted by the Parsees is called the Era of 'Yezdējērd, and commences A. p. 632, the year of the accession of Yezdejerd III. to the throne of Persia, and the game in which thịt kingdom was iftached by the Arabs: The Sassanim dynasty terminated by the successive defeats of this monarch in 686, and afterwards in 641, and his expulsion from the country. There are two modes of tal- culating this æra adopted by the Parsees, which differ only in ope month; the Ķudmees reckon time as given in the the first columų ju this Calendar, the Rasmees or Shenshai date it one mouth later as given in the second-column, commencing their year September 27th. The intercalation of five days at the end of the 12 months of B0 days to calmplete the year of 365 days is a very ancient mode, intro- 'duced by and adopted from the Chaldeans, by the Persians, Medes, Egyptians, Grecians, Romans, and Mexicans,, among all of whome they were observed with mirth and feasting. They are collectively called Gawthows by the Parsees, knt each one has its own haine,
