Dating the commencement of the building of Babel from about the year 2230, and presuming that the dispersion, which soon followed, drove mankind eastward to the Yellow river, it is possible, and per- haps probable, that Yü was the founder of the Chinese empire. The allusion to his draining off the waters of a deluge seems to support. this supposition. All the records extant, regarding this dynasty, are of
very doubtful authenticity.
