Each of the departments, with some of the principal districts, many be separately described, in the order in which they stand above.

1. The department of Hángchau, being that in which the pro vincial capital is situated, constitutes the most important portion of the province. Its form is rhomboidal, the northern line running nearly duc cast and west, from the sea to the frontiers of A ́nhwui, distance of perhaps ninety miles, and separating this from the depart ments of Kiáhing and Húchau. From its northeast extreme, th:e seacoast forms the boundary line, which runs in a southwesterly di- vection ; and, after crossing the river Tsientang, divides this from the department of Shaubing on the cast

On the south is Yenchau, and The province of A ubwoi on the west.
