Reports Of Japanese Origin: Part Of Propaganda Scheme
INFORMED QUARTERS IN WASHINGTON CAN STILL FIND NO SATISFAC- TORY EXPLANATION FOR THE PERSISTENT REPORTS FROM THE FAR EAST OF A PENDING COMPREHENSIVE AGREEMENT BETWEEN TOKYO AND WASHINGTON WHICH WILL PUT RELATIONS BETWEEN THE TWO COUNTRIES ON A FRIENDLY BASIS.
The only explanation, anywhere in Washington appears to be that they are of Japanese origin and part of the wish being father to the thought of a propaganda
scheme."
There is still no sign of such an agreement in any really informed quarters in Washington, says Reuter.
It is pointed out by some observers that it is strange that if such an agreement is to be forthcoming soon as President Roosevelt has not yet replied to Prince Konoye's personal letter.
Mr. Cordell Hull, at his Press conference, has appealed to observers to take pains to discount all reports of an im- pending agreement and continues to assert forcefully that. the American policy still resis on the pronouncements of July 1937 and before the Congressional Lease-Lend Bill Committee hearings.
