DIRECT METHOD OF TEACHING ENGLISH

What is meant by the Direct Method of Teaching and how did it come to be chosen as the method to be used in teaching English in Malaya?

To answer the second part of the question Arst, it must be explained that barely thirty years have passed since the Direct Method was introduced in this country. Before its introduction chlidren in Malaya were required to learn word-lists as part of - their first lessons in English. What made these ward-lists specially dangerous was that they were not lists with words in English and the mother tongue of the child. The lists used were English-Malay or Malay-English lists.

In consequence, it was possible, jured up by the reader.
