$60,000,000

WAR BONDS

Chungking will subscribe to $60,- 000,000 worth of war bonds in the nationwide "bay war bonds" drive under the leadership of Generalis- simo Chiang Kai-shek. Six teams are organised to handle the sale. Local banks will buy $34,000,000

and the remaining half will be taken up by businessmen and municipal and civit organs.

BONDS OFFERED

Bonds offered for public subs cription in the present drive are the 29th Year Gold Reconstruction Loan and the 29th Year War Sup plies Loan. The former amounts to £10,000,000 and U.8.$50,000,000 selling at two per cent, discount. The latter amounts to $1,200,000,- 000 (Chinese currency) selling at six per cent. discount. Both are to be retired in 25 years be- ginning in 1942. A special com- mittee comprising the entire Peo- ple's Political Council and govern- ment and civil leaders has been organised to promote the sale on a nationwide scale.

The municipal government team Is sub-divided into seven teams. They plan to sell $7,500,000 worth of bonds, with' $3,500,000 from the Chungking Political Council, $500,- 000 from the Bureau of Social Welfare, $1,000,000 from blue Bureau of Police, $1,000,000 from the Bureau of Finance, $500,000 from the Bureau of Public Health, $500,000 from the Bureau of Public Works, and $500,000 from ' the Chungking District Court.

For those who wish to buy gold bands with Chinese currency, the rate has been set at 4 pence for Chinese dollar and 74 U.S. dollars for 100 Chinese dollars.
