CHRISTMAS WEEK: THE ABBOT OF PRINKNASH; TIME BOMB HEROES

THE DISTINCTIVE FEATURE OF CHRISTMAS CELEBRA- TION IN THE CATHOLIC CHURCH IS THE CELEBRATION OF THREE MASSES ON CHRISTMAS DAY. Equally distinctive in many places is the Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve, though this is not a universal custom. The three Masses symbolise, particularly the triple birth of Jesus Christ: first, the eternal generation of- the Son of God as ■ distinct Person from the Father in the Holy Trinity: second, the birth as man, which is celebrated at Christ- mas; and third, the birth which is to the power of each individus to, being about, His spiritual coming into the individual souls of those who accept and follow Him. Attendance at one Mass, is all that the Church requires on Christmas Day.
