But Hongkong can provide gym shoes, not only for the. Forces in the East, but for the whole of the British Army, the Navy and the Air Force as well. Singlets and socks are made there by the millions

A great variety of small articles in metal and wood-spades, lamps, torches, enamelware, buckles — which the Army requires in large numbers, can be turned out cheap- ly in Hongkong.

The dockyards there.. working at high pressure for the Admiralty. are producing quantities of scrap metal, all of which is convertiple into useful army supplies.

Factories making gas masks and steel helmets for the Chinese army are already in existence, and their output is capable of considerable extension and expansion.

› India, it is understood, will be looked to for the cotton yarn re- quired by textile industries and Australia for steel.

Malaya, of course, will be Hong- kong's main supplier of rubber.
