ABBAS AND RAKUSEN IN BOWLS SINGLES FINAL

U.M. Omar Defeated. After Leading 14-2

M. R. ABBAS, the Indian R.C. skip, entered the final of the Colony Open Singles lawn bowls championship for the first time. In his career yesterday when he defeated, the holder, U. M. Omar, by 21 shots to 20 on the 27th head in the semi-final at the Kowloon Bowling Green Club.

The other Analist is M. N. RAKU- BEN who beat F. J. Jones 21-18 on the 22nd head.

DONATIONS-

The Special Sweep on the Kwangtung Handicap, 1940, re- sulted in a surplus of $61,- 902.53. This has been divided between the South China Morning Post War Fund and the British Fund for Eelief of Distress in China.

The sum in question brings the total amount contributed by this Club to War Funds up to $259,402.

The Stewards have decided that the surplus on the Special Sweep at the Annual Race Meeting, 1941, which will be on the Rooty Hill Derby, will be allocated to British War Funds and the British Fund for Re- Hef of Distress in China.

$5,300 AT SALE

A fine looking four-year-old bay reiding by Caravel out of Lady Bazen (pony No. 50 in the official list) was the bid of the evening at yesterday's auction of Australian griffins imported by the Hong- kong Jockey Club for sale to members, the animal fetching, $5.300,

The next best bid was secured by pony No. 18, a handsome brown mare by Civilian out of Lady Rome. This griffin fetched $3,200, The average price obtained at yester- day's offerings was slightly over $2,000 each.
