ITALIAN CLAIM UNTRUE
LONDON, July 16. (Router)- Authoritative circles in London point out that the long list of place names mentioned in yester day's Italian High Command com- 3/9/38 munique, seem to have, been in- cluded chiefly in order to impress the Italian home opinion, for all belong to isolated groups and mudhuts, which are entirely with- out military importance.

In any case their capture is not confirmed. These circles further: say that the Italian claim to have cut off the Kenya salient. was absolutely untrue, and atten-„ tion is again drawn to the fact that all these actions are on very small scale and are more in the nature of reconnaissance raids than serious operations

MAINTENANCE OF PRESTIGE
LONDON, July 18 (Reuter)--The Italian attack at Moyale may be with the object of maintaining prestige, in Ethiopia, writes Rea ter's Military correspondent.
It was in this "region a few weeks ago, that the King's African Rides raided at various points on the border and caused much up- 17/5/38 settlement among the Abyssinian
conscripts.
The withdrawal may, therefore, 31/10/38 be regarded more so as part or the guerilla pian, which will con- tinue than as any serious surren- der of territory.
