A French communique says the battle was resumed at dawn, enemy pressure being particularly marked to the south of the Lower Somme where a slight withdrawal of our advanced elements took place.

ON THE WHOLE WE MAINTAINED OUR POSITIONS ON THE REST OF THE FRONT ATTACKED.

On the Somme sector the British Expeditionary Force is fighting side by side with their French Allies.

The fighting, which now extends along practically the whole of the front, from the sea to the Aisne, died down during the night without the attackers being able to reduce points of support which their tanks encountered. These tanks were compelled to come to a halt or to push on further where more "hedgehogs" (anti-tank traps) were awaiting them.
