-Issue Of New Shares Is
Approved At Meeting
Although the Macao Electric Lighting Co., Ltd., recorded a net
·profit of $323,861.80 for 1939, the chairman, Mr. F. J. Gellion, Indi- cated at the Company's 29th annual general meeting yesterday that they will not be able to operate this year under such favourable ex- change and supply contracts, and that there is no doubt that the operating costs will be increased due to the European situation which has brought about an increase in the costs of all supplies needed for their working purposes. It was decided to pay a dividend of $1.50 per share and a bonus of 50 cts. Der share.

At an extra ordinary general meeting held immediately after the general meeting it was pro- posed that the capital of the Com- pany be increased to $2,000,000 by the creation of 110,000 additional shares of $10 each, ranking,, for dividends and in all other respects pari passy with the existing shares In the Company. The resolution was duly carried.
OFFER TO SHAREHOLDERS In proposing the resolution, the chairman said that the original capital of the Company, formed in 1910, was $300,000 and, in 1927, this was increased to $900,000 by the creation of two shares to every one issued. The statement of account, of the British War Organisation Fund, for the month of March, shows a balance on the right side of $88.- 122.78.
Donations received during the month totalled $19.089.35 which together with a refund of rates, for the former offices, of $425 and a credit balance of $65.419.99 brings the grand total to $85,834.35,
A remittance of £1000 was made to St. Dunstan's and at 1/2 13/16 this comes to $16,205.93. Purchases of wool and sewing materials came up to $589.60 and packing, trap- sport and insurance totalled $488.20 while office expenses amounted to $447.75.
