of the various candidates in train-

ing. the meeting should produce excellent and interesting racing.

"Another feature that will help

towards stimulating interest is the Special $1 Sweep on the Hongkong Derby, the proceeds of which wil be given to The British War. Or- ganisation Fund and the British -Fund for Relief of Distress in China-Two organizations that are well worthy of all the support ac- corded them. The sale of tickets have already exceeded the 500,000

mark and a new record is sure to be established.^|-

NEW PONIES ON VIEW The Derby griffins, from all ap- pearances, are an extremely well bred and speedy lot, with the re- salt that the old records will pro-

bably go by the board in the course of the week. As there are two events for this class of ponies tomorrow-the Maiden Stakės and the Trial Plate-it is difficult to

forecast accurately in which race the respective contenders will start, and I will therefore base my comments on information avail- able.
