During the arst three quarters of, 1939 while the cus toms in Free China registered a favourable international balance of payments of $33,645,000, those in the Japanese administered areas and in the districts of Shanghat and Kowloon recorded a total unfavourable foreign balance of $405,115,000, according to statistics published by The Financial Review of the Central Bank of China.
The adverse balance of international payments in the customa under Japanese occupation was given by the same report at 1269, - 172,000, while that in the ports of Shanghai and Kowloon, which suf- fer more or less from Japanese interference, was placed at $155,942,- 000.
