December was a month of almost cloudless skies and unbroken sun- shine, owing to the persistence of a strong anticyclone over China.

The weather was very dry, and no measurable amount of rainfall was recorded from Nov, 27 unul the end of the year.

MÉAN TEMPERATURE

The mean temperature for the month was 61.9 F. which ls 1.1" below normal. A maximum of 73.2" was recorded on the 17th, and minimum of 52.0 on the 35th. The mean relative humidity was 62 per cent. which is 8 per cent below normal.

TOTAL SUNSHINE

The total sunshine was 289 hours. which exceeds the normal by 98 hours, and is a record for Decem- ber.

No rain fel during the month; this record was equalled in December 1884 and 1969, which were also completely rainless months.

The maximum wind velocity in a gust was 43 m.p.h., at 1 am, on the 21st.
