NEW YORK, COTTON: Trade and foreign demand absorbed year-end liquidation. Textiles continued to be active and prices were flem. The Trade predicts that the uptrend in dry-goods business wil continue at least throughout the early part of 1940.

NEW YORK RUBBER: Reports of heavy arrivals for December caused an easier opening but later the market became steady on fac- tory and Commission-House demand. The technical position has im- proved and liquidation is believed to have run its course.

CHICAGO WHEAT: Reports of Improved crop conditions result- ing from the recent rains were offset by the continued large four sales. A prominent Trade journal predicts, an even better four busi- ness in the early months of the New Year. With the existing small mill stocks and a potentially tight cash position as a result of the Loan situation, high prices levels are likely continue.

NEW YORK HIDES: There was a large Commission-House de- mand for futures and good export demand for domestic leather was reported.
