Ernie Fincher Jumps Into Form In First Match

Only three first Division matches were played on Saturday and strangely enough each one ended in a draw. I rather expected the Army to beat the Club but the latter, helped by three men from Civil Service C.C., managed to play out time after the Army had declared at 195 for seven.
Captain Grose, who created such a good impression when he played against the Indians about a month ago. batted very prettily for 39 but the highest scorer for the Army was Sergt. Denyer who collected 54 in a somewhat. breezy knock.

Two Members Of Fair Sex Brought To Grief
BY JACK SPRAGGON
We opened our season as usual at Tien Ping Shan where Mr. Bill Stanton regaled us with coffee and brandy. Mrs. Stanton is away in Shanghai but her place was ably filled by her daughter, Miss Lois Fearon.
Among those at the meet were the old brigade of Potts, Stanton, Wilson, Macnamara and Oliver. The fair sex were represented by Miss Beryl Fair, Mrs. Butcher, Miss Smalley, Mrs. Basto and Mrs. Whittaker.

The Civil Service partner- » ship of Richardson and Fortes- cae opened the innings for the Club and both batsmen went for the runs right from the start. I remember one parti- cularly good shot by Richard- son who sent an over-tossed one from Godby past cover- paint for a four at a tremen- dous rate.
A couple of weeks ago I said that Ramjahn was perhaps a bit too old for Senior cricket. If he maintains the form he showed on Saturday he must be chosen for the 1.R.C. 1st XL for the League. and good luck to him too!
