MRS. GRASETT PRESENTS CUP

Combining well and playing excellent polo, the Royal Scots defeated the Fixed Defences in the final of the Inter- Regimental Tournament at Boundary Road yesterday, by six goals to three. It was a good, clean and fast game in which the Scotsmen did not have things their own way all the time and had to fight hard for their victory.

Play was confined the usual Subalterns Cup. to midfield for some time, with which has not been played for neither side making any progress since 1937, when, the HK until the gunners got away and nearly scored through Forrester,

The Subalterns' Cup was not played for last year owing to there being insufficient subalterns make up the teams and this year the Inter-Regimental Tournament was introduced' instead,

The Cup was presented to the winning team by Mrs. Grasett, Wife of H." E. Major-General A. E Grasett, G. O. C., who, with.

Burn then attacked again and passed to Gilbertson, who drove the ball between the" posts just as the final bell was sounded with the! Royal Scots winners by six to three.

Burn played exceptionally well and, with Glibertson, was the mainstay of the Regimental attack, while Godley proved a stolid de- fence,

Fargus, too, was often in

the pleture,

For the gunners, Morgan and Forrester were outstanding, while Hunt proved useful in many an at- tack.

H.K.R.A. Shoot At R.N: Rifle Range On Saturday:

Twenty-one firers were present at the shoot on the Royal Naval Rifle Range at Stonecutter's Island on Satur- day.

The wind was gusty and the light at 200 and 500 yards was particularly good.

W

As usual it failed at 600 and caused Mr. Langley, of the D.R.C., to make the mediocre score of 26 at this range, after putting on a possible at 200 and 34 at 500,

He thus lost the Nett Spoon to Mr. Carey, of Hong- kong R.N.V.R.. by one point,

Mr. Gillman, of the D.R.C., again won the 3.R. (a) with a score of 83, thus keeping up his consistently.good open sight shooting.

"I make an earnest appeal to players and spectators alike, and in this I include all communities, for the fault by no means Ties on one side alone, to play the game as it is meant to be played, keenly but cleanly.....So far as the Hongkong Football Associa- tion is concerned it is deter- mined to keep the game clean In Hongkong and it will not hesitate to use all the power

It possesses to maintain the true spirit of the game in this Colony."—SIR THŪMAS: SOUTHORN. (JULY, 1934).

1937 Appeal

The new Cottnell will,

no doubt, very seriously con- '' sider what steps should be taken to improve matters. I venture to suggest that play- ers should be encouraged, by example and by precept, to bear in mind the real purpose of games."-HON, MR, ̈M. K. LO (JULY 12, 1937).

SCATHING CRITICISM OF ROUGH PLAY IN LEAGUE FOOTBALL

A SCATHING CRITICISM OF THE POOR TACTICS ADOPT- "ED BY SOME TEAMS IN THE FOOTBALL LEAGUE in recent matcher was made at the meeting of the Counell of the Hong- kong Football Association yesterday by Mr. Walter H. Chen, Hon. Secretary of the South China A.A. who voiced his objection to such rough play in football matches locally as was liable to cause serious injury to players and could only cause disappointment to people who turned out in the hope of enjoying a good and scientific soccer game.

Mr. W. Pryde took the chair:
