Jeanette MacDonald In "Broadway Serenade"
Jeanette MacDonald, Hollywood golden-voiced film star, appears" in her first solo starring role in "Broadway Serenade,” which was given
a press preview yesterday and which will be screened at the Queen's and Alhambra Theatres tomorrow.
The picture gives Jeanette every opportunity to sing, and sing she does from grand opera to popular bits, which were specially written for the film.
SONG NUMBERS
Here are a few of the outstand- ing numbers that Jeanette renders -"For Every Lonely Heart." "Flyin' High," "Rhapsody." "One Look at You," "Time Changes Everything." "No Time To Argue" and "Ridin' on' a Rainbow." in ad- dition to an excellent medley of old fashioned tunes which have ever won popularity.
Music and singing, in fact, are the features of the picture, the story of which is based on the struggles of a young singer in her .progress from cheap night clubs
comedy to musical
stardoin. Jeanette excels all performances in the role and apart from her lovely singing, throws into her acting all the feeling and emotion necessary to emphasize the theme of the story.
SUPPORTING CAST Playing opposite her is· Lew Ayres in his most important role sace his re-entry into films as the
husband star's composer
who, while his wife` is, winning stage triumphs, hides in the obscurity of playing a piano in a five-and- ten-cent store.
zan Hunter supplies the third point in the love triangle with his usual ability and others in the supporting cast are Frank Mor- Kan.
Al Shean, Virginia Grey, Rita Johnson, William Gargan, Franklin Pangborn and Kitty Mc- Hugh
"Broadway Serenade" is delight- ful entertainment
"DAWN PATROL" AT MAJESTIC TOMORROW
"The Dawn Patipi," Warner Bros. great aviation epic of the World screened at the be War w Majestic Theatre tomorrow pre- sentation.
The brilliant and all-male cast is headed by Errol Flynn, and Basil Rathbone, David Niven, Donald Crisp, Melville Cooper are featured With him, as well as a large cast of others.
It is a tale of the heroism and tragedy that were the daily por- tion of the brave "young knights of the air who engaged in aerial combat oVET. the western front during the early days of the World War,
Ble
As one of these comparatively veteran flyers, Errol Flynn has a role which obviously gives him display in opportunity, to full flower, the personality and acting talent that have made tim such a tremendous favourite in the screen.
