New Zealand Ranks 6th WIDE DISCOUNT

Amongst Purchasers Of

Canada's Exports

New Zealand ranks sixth amongst the purchasers of Canada's exports. The value of these shipments has increased steadily in recent years, rising from $8,724,225 in the fiscal year 1931/32 to a peak of $37,037,785 in 1938/39. Canada's Imports from New Zealand have also expanded, from approximately $1,000,000 in 1931/32, and 1932/33, attaining a peak of $7,387,272 in 1937/38 but falling back to $3,878,111 in the Ascal year ended March 31 last.

This decline was due, as in shipped from Canada Austraila, to the downward trend Zealand in 1937/38.

WELFARE FOR MINERS

Mr. Geoffrey Lloyd, Mines Mänis- ter, in a speech at the Miners Welfare Annual Conference, ex- pressed gratification that the Welfare Committee had become incorporated by an Act of Parlia ment thereby receiving greater powers" for the furtherance of welfare work.

Further cause for satisfaction was the work on pithead baths, which had been continued and extended, and the diminuation of wartime inconveniences both for miners and their wives by con- 'tinuing to maintain canteens; in- stitutes and other social amenities. (BWS).
