WAR IN EUROPE

Referring to the war in Europe, Major General Grasett said that it would do no one any good to be gloomy, or miserable about it.

It was to be hoped all would realise that the British Empire was up against a bigger thing than ever before, and that Hongkong was just as mach affected as any part of the Em- pire

"We know very little of what is going on Major General Grasett said. "But up to date there has been very little going on. Now the gloves are off and it remains to be seen what will happen.”

The German Army Command bad been placed in an extraordinarily difficult position from the very outset, Major General Grasett said, in that it was given to them to take the initiative, and they were left with the difficult task of misk- ing a decision.

THE GERMAN ARMY The German Army is a tine mill- tary machine, though consolation can be taken in the fact it is not as fine.a machine, as it was in 1914. The German High Command has been preparing for some time. learning the lessons of the last war. and examining in thoroughness everything there is in exery army.
