COTTON: There was a substantial buying early in the day for distant options, but covering was less urgent. Trade demand was only moderate and hedging was small though constant." The Cotton-goods market was firm. Weather conditions are more favour- able for harvesting...

RUBBER: Reports that the year-end Industrial statistics will have a better showing than so far calculated failed to stimulate any interest. September consumption was 50,150 tons compared with 50,418 tons in the month of August.

WHEAT:

The Cash market is still firm.. Weather conditions in the West and in the South-west are favourable for preparation of the 1940. Winter Wheat crop. There is a possibility of some increase in the acreage in the event of any increase in hostilities.

HIDES: Packers' stocks are estimated to be fairly sizable but with shoe production rising little difficulty in absorbing those sup- plies is likely. Present outlook Yavours rising consumption of leather goods during remainder of year,
