New Liquor And Petrol VOLUNTEER ORDERS

Duties Come Into Force

The new duties on liquors and petrol, which were an- nounced at Thursday's Budget meeting of the Legislative Council, came into operation at 2 p.m. the same day, ac- cording to a Government "Gazette" notification published yesterday.

The following are the new duties:-

European Type Liquor:

On all liquors, champagne and other sparkling wines: $16.25 per gallon (Empire Product); | $28.50 per gallon (other origin).

On all brandy: $6.25 per gallon (Empire Product); $20 per gallon (other origin).

On all gin, whisky and other. spirituous liquors: $12.50 per gallon (Empire Product); $20 per gallon (other origin), "

For every one per cent. of addi- tional alcoholic strength weight: 3 cents per gallon.

It will alsq, be lawful for the Superintendent of Imports and Exports, in his discretion, to assess the duty on any in- toxicating liquor not specifical- ly mentioned above and also for him to assess the duty on any spirituous liquors, Import- ed in a consignment of less than two gallons at a time, at $20 per gallon.
