CHINESE BANK CLERK HIT

British Soldier Convicted

Private Cyril James Ken- nelly, 24, of the Middlesex Be giment, was convicted at Kow- loon Court yesterday, before Mr. E. Himsworth, of assault on this person of Won Kii- Ja, a clerk of the Central Bank of China, in Hankow Road about 12.30 am, on September 4.

Kennelly was bound over on a sum of $20 to be of good behaviour

for a period of 12 months, and ordered also to pay $15- compen- sation to complainant towards the | cost of a wrist watch löst in the course of the assault.

It was alleged that there were at least three other soldiers pre- sent who participated in the attack on the complainant, who claimed, in evidence, that he was pushed against a wall, hit on the ear, and suffered a burn from a cigarette-end.

The defendant and three other soldiers were arrested at the Kow- loom Hotel, and all four were charged with robbery, and assault The charges of robbery were dis- missed against all four men sub- sequently on the ground that there Was not sufficient "evidente proceed with the case against them, and the chargé of assault was dis- missed also in the case of three of the defendants,

Mr. Tp Lan-chuen announced, that since the restrictions prohibiting imports in 36 categories had been announced by the Government of the Federated Malay States last month, it had been found that Hongkong goods would be allowed entry if the materials used in their manufacture were of United Kingdom or Empire origin,
