The committee of the Stock Exchange decided on August 24 to fix minimum prices for Gut-edged

securities.

This move was anticipated in the City and follows similar action in the Munich crisis.

Brokers will now not be al- lowed to deal in War Loan be. low £88-10s., while 24 per cent. Consols are to be quoted .at .. £62 10.

Other prices have been fixed on a similar basis.

Almost at the same time it was announced that dealings in Home Railway stocks had been suspended until some rui- dance was received from the Committee.

All round the markets, business was almost at a standstill but there was no rush to sell,

A Committee of Three has been appointed on the London Rubber Exchange, which would have the unq.full power of the whole committee ung in the event of a state of emer-, $123.00 gency being declared.

Prices early advanced on buying by speculators, but later react-

ed on liquidation and realising. Department of Agriculture Officials said to-day that, as far as they knew, the International Cotton Conference would begin on Tuesday, as scheduled, although "they added that a general war might conceivably bring about the recall of some of the delegates.

RUBBER

The nearness of the war danger boomed prices from the open- Ing of the market, but later reports of an easing of the situation brought about general liquidation and prices slumped badly towards the close.

WHEAT

Prices opened higher on war prospects in Europe and advanced further on general buying, but the market towards the close took the downward trend on rumours of renewed peace talks and of the possibilities of the avoidance of a general conflict.
