LONDON, SEPT, 4 (REUTER)—RESIDENTS OF LONDON HAVE BEEN ORDERED TO SELL TO THE TREASURY-ANY GOLD OR THE FOLLOWING FOREIGN EXCHANGE AT THEIR DISPOSAL

United States and Canadian dollars; bela, Swiss and French Swedish and Norwegian francs; quilders: Argentine pesos and

RICE SITUATION EASIER IN S'HAI

With the arrival on Aug. 28 of 5,000 bags of rice and another shipment of 1,800 tons due shortly the rice attuation in Shanghai has somewhat improved and the price declined by 51 per pical. Rice riots did not occur as most shops were able to sell the quantities required by customers.

While the normal average dally consumption is 10,000 bags, it was pointed out by reliable circles that since, the increase in the price, this figure has been somewhat re- duced.
